Manchester United midfielder wants new challenge

Marouane Fellaini is set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season after telling the club he wants a new challenge, claims The Sun.

Fellaini’s current deal is due to expire in the summer and is now free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs.

The Belgium international turned down a new contract offer from United in September but Jose Mourinho still hopes to convince the 30-year-old to stay.

Mourinho will use United’s warm-weather training camp in Dubai to prove there are still things for Fellaini to achieve at Old Trafford, but as things stand he is poised to leave in the summer.

It’s testament to how Fellaini has turned around his United career that his departure would be deemed as a blow.

The former Everton midfielder was often the scapegoat for all of United’s problems until Mourinho was appointed United boss in May 2016.

Mourinho made a conscious effort to defend Fellaini on a number of occasions and now United fans have finally warmed to the experienced Belgian.

In fact, United have a better win rate in the Premier League under Mourinho with Fellaini in the starting XI (57.1%) compared to when he has not featured from the off (51.3%).
