Manchester City striker pens contract extension

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has put pen to paper on a new contract extension that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2021, the club has confirmed.

The Argentine, who moved to City in 2011, has been in excellent form this term, scoring three and assisting two in five Premier League appeatances.

“Sergio Aguero has extended his current deal with City by another year,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

“The Argentina star was contracted to the Club until 2020 but has now penned an extension that will take him to 2021.

“Having joined in 2011 from Atletico Madrid, the Blues’ all-time top scorer will have spent a decade with City when his new deal expires.”

On his new deal, Aguero said: "I am happy for this additional year. My idea was being here for 10 years. I’ve been here for seven years, it’s going to be 10 when the contract expires.

"Hopefully, that's going to happen. This was the main reason I signed."

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “We are delighted that Sergio is extending his stay at Manchester City.

“He has been so important to this Club since his arrival in 2011 and he remains at the forefront of what we are want to achieve in the coming years.

“We are fortunate to have had one of the best strikers in the world at our Club for so many years and I’m sure our supporters will be thrilled with this news.”

Since moving to City in 2011, Aguero has had a direct hand in more Premier League goals (183 - 146 goals, 37 assists) than any other player.
