Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has dismissed reports suggesting the club are poised to sign Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.
Hernandez, 27, hasn’t featured for United in the Premier League since the opening game of last season and looked set for a move away this summer before it was reported by various outlets that Louis van Gaal would give the Mexican another chance to stake his claim for the season ahead.
Reports had surfaced suggesting Spurs would step up their interest in the Mexico international once Emmanuel Adebayor’s impending loan move to Aston Villa is completed. However, this is not the case according to Pochettino.
“About Javier Hernandez, those are rumours and nothing more. There is nothing concrete. He is a Manchester United player and logically a lot of names are getting suggested for Tottenham and Javier is just one more,” the Spurs boss is quoted as saying by ESPN.
Hernandez was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford last season and spent the bulk of the 2014/15 campaign on loan at Real Madrid.
Hernandez was mainly used as a substitute, making just seven starts in La Liga. Despite limited game time, only Cristiano Ronaldo (64.6 mins) required fewer minutes per goal than Hernandez (122.7 mins) in the league last season.
