Manchester City star set for bumper new deal

Manchester City are working on a new six-year deal for Bernardo Silva to help ward off interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona, claims The Sun.

Silva’s current deal is not due to expire until the summer of 2022 but the defending Premier League champions want to reward the Portugal international with a new long-term deal.

The 24-year-old struggled to nail down a regular starting berth during his first season at the club but has emerged as one of City’s most important players this season.

Silva has arguably been one of the best players in the Premier League this term and Pep Guardiola has lavished praise on the creative midfielder on more than one occasion.

Spanish giants Barcelona and Madrid are understood to be interested in Silva but City have no interest in losing one of their star players and are willing to nearly double his current £100,000-a-week salary.

Silva has played a direct hand in 11 goals in the Premier League this season, one more than he managed in the entirety of his first campaign at the club.
