Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed his ambition to manage the England national team in the future.
Pochettino has been responsible for 17 of the last 21 debutants for the English national team and is widely regarded as one of the best young coaches in Europe.
The Argentine is looking to build something special at Tottenham but has revealed he would relish the opportunity to manage England if he ever stepped into international management.
“If I were to be an international manager one day, I’d relish the opportunity to coach the England national team,” The Daily Telegraph quote Pochettino as writing in an extract of his new book. “I’ve heard that I’ve been considered for the job before but I don’t know if there was any truth in it.
“I’d be reunited with loads of familiar faces: Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Adam Lallana. Of the last 21, 17 have played under me. Eleven regulars in the England squad made their debuts under my stewardship.”
Tottenham have won each of their last six matches ahead of their daunting trip to Madrid on Tuesday to face Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Since becoming Tottenham head coach in May 2014, Pochettino has won 55.2% of his matches in charge.
