Manchester United hopeful of signing £40m Tottenham ace
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is growing increasingly confident of signing £40m-rated Tottenham ace Eric Dier this summer, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The United manager has identified Dier as his top transfer target this summer and believes the offer of regular first-team football in his preferred central midfield position could sway the midfielder into making the move up North.
Dier, 23, has found chances to play in midfield limited this season following the signing of Victor Wanyama last summer and has instead been forced to play in defence for the majority of the season.
The England international only signed a new five-year deal in September and it wouldn’t appear that United’s chances of signing him are particularly high at the moment but United feel there is a chance of luring him away.
There is also the fact that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is incredibly difficult to negotiate with, as United found out in the past in deals to sign Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov. However, Tottenham are reportedly considering a move for former United defender Michael Keane could only encourage Mourinho’s side in their pursuit of Dier.
