Swansea City have confirmed the big money signing of Sam Clucas from Hull City.
The 26-year-old was part of the Tigers side that dropped back into the Championship last season and has penned a four-year deal at the Liberty Stadium.
“Swansea City are delighted to announce the signing of Hull City midfielder Sam Clucas,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
“The 26-year-old arrives at the Liberty Stadium for an undisclosed fee.
“Clucas has signed a four-year contract at the Liberty Stadium and goes straight into contention for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Crystal Palace.
“The Lincoln-born player did not feature for Hull at Queens Park Rangers last weekend because of speculation surrounding his future.
“But Clucas has already appeared three times in the Championship this season, and returns to the Premier League having shone in the top flight last term.
“He played in all but one of Hull’s league games in 2016-17, emerging as one of the leading lights in what ultimately was an unsuccessful survival fight.
“At 6ft 2in, Clucas will bring considerable presence to Paul Clement’s midfield along with energy, technical quality and an eye for goal.
“He had attracted interest from a number of top-tier clubs following Hull’s relegation having impressed many with his displays last season.
“Clucas took an unusual path to the highest level. A striker who was on the books at Leicester City as a youngster, he looked set to miss out on a senior professional career having been cast aside by the Foxes at the age of 16.
“But after spending time in the Glenn Hoddle Academy, Clucas landed a moved to Hereford United – who were then in the fifth tier – in 2011.
“He moved to League Two with Mansfield in 2013, then to League One when he joined Chesterfield in 2014.
“Hull gave him the chance in the Championship in 2015 and, after promotion the following spring, Clucas earned a crack at the Premier League.
“He has taken every step up the ladder in his stride, scoring goals in each of the five divisions in consecutive seasons.”
