Batshuayi signs Chelsea contract extension and re-joins Crystal Palace

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi has signed a new 12-month contract extension and joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan deal.

Frank Lampard's side have sanctioned Batshuayi's return to Palace after failing to sell the Belgium international permanently this summer.

Chelsea first extended Batshuayi's deal to prevent the striker leaving for nothing next summer when his previous deal was due to expire.

The 26-year-old, who spent the second half of the 2018/19 season on loan at Palace, now has a Chelsea deal that runs until the summer of 2022.

Palace were lining up a loan move for Chelsea starlet Conor Gallagher but have been forced to end their pursuit following Batshuayi's move.

Premier League rules state Palace cannot sign multiple loan players from the same club in the same window and signing a striker was deemed more of a priority for Roy Hodgson's side.

Batshuayi has only started 14 Premier League games since moving to Chelsea from Marseille in 2016 and nine came during a brief loan stint with Palace in 2019.

Moreover, five of the 13 Premier League goals Batshuayi has scored in his career came during his loan spell at Selhurst Park.
