Real Madrid eye shock move for Brazilian striker

Real Madrid are interested in making a surprise move for Fluminense striker Pedro but face competition from their European rivals, claims AS.

Julen Lopetegui re-signed Mariano from Lyon at the end of the summer transfer window but that hasn't closed the door on signing long-term target Pedro.

The European champions have made a clear shift towards signing the best young talent around the world in recent years and Pedro is next on their list.

Pedro has caught the eye with his performances in Brazil this season and reportedly even came close to joining French side Bordeaux in the summer.

Brazil head coach Tite rewarded the Fluminense striker with his first ever senior call-up for their upcoming internationals but the 21-year-old was forced to withdraw due to injury.

Pedro not long ago signed a new long-term deal with Fluminense with a €50m release clause but Madrid have no intention of paying that much.

Madrid president Florentino Perez is confident they can convince their Brazilian counterparts to relinquish Pedro for half that fee, but AC Milan, Sevilla and Roma are also interested.

Pedro has scored 10 goals in 19 league games for Fluminense this season. In fact, only former Inter striker Gabigol has netted as many times in this season's Brasileirao as Pedro (both 10).
