Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez has revealed he dreams of one day playing in the Premier League.
The Uruguay international struggled for regular game time in the opening months of the season, but was a frequent fixture in the Atletico first team come the end of the campaign, playing in midfield and at right-back as well as at centre-back.
The 22-year-old’s current deal expires in 12 months’ time and he is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract for the capital side.
Premier League pair Manchester United and Liverpool have both been credited with an interest in Gimenez in recent months and his admission will alert the rivals to his potential unwillingness to extend his stay in Madrid.
"I dream of playing in the Premier League because all of the matches are fairly even,” he is quoted as saying by Marca.
However, he admitted that his future is dependent on the deal Atletico offer him, with the Uruguayan youngster expressing his gratitude for Los Rojiblancos.
“If Atletico offer me a contract for life, I will stay,” he added.
"Atletico taught me a lot from the first day I arrived. I am privileged to be at the club."
