Manchester United midfielder could earn shock new deal
Manchester United are pondering a surprise new contract for Nemanja Matic, claims The Sun.
Matic was widely expected to leave United in this window but is now a key player for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's injury-struck side.
Inter were heavily linked with a move for the Serbia international but Solskjaer has told Matic he will no longer be allowed to leave.
Matic has filled in for Scott McTominay very well in recent weeks and could even earn fresh terms at Old Trafford.
The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is free to agree a Bosman transfer with foreign clubs.
United have an option to prolong his stay by a further 12 months and have informed Matic's representatives they intend to do so.
Matic has been limited to just five Premier League starts so far this season but is expected to play a prominent role over the remainder of the campaign.
In fact, United have a far superior win ratio under Solskjaer when Matic has started in the Premier League (63.2%) compared to when he has not (37.5%).
