Chelsea midfielder ‘100 per cent’ staying at the club this summer
Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has revealed he will ‘100 per cent’ be at the club at the start of next season despite falling down the pecking order under Antonio Conte this season.
Fabregas, 28, was heavily linked with a move away from the club in January after barely featuring for the current Premier League leaders but the Spain international has knuckled down and been a real asset when called upon.
The former Barcelona ace has proven the perfect substitute for Chelsea when the game is stretched, with the midfielder able to pick pin-point long passes over the top of the defence to find the likes of Diego Costa and Pedro.
However, Fabregas was still expected to move on at the end of the season with new midfield arrivals anticipated this summer, but he says otherwise.
“100 per cent. I am not thinking about anything else than challenging myself here,” Fabregas told Sky Sports when asked if he sees himself at Chelsea next season. “The situation from six months ago to now has changed massivey.
“From the beginning it has been a big challenge and there are always rumours, you cannot stop that, but I don’t even care what people say. Not for one second did I want to leave. Sometimes it’s so easy, you don’t play two games, you get frustrated and upset and want to move somewhere else, but for me it’s the opposite; I want to challenge myself.
“I know in my brain what I can do and if I am better than others or not. I know what I can bring to this team and by improving and listening to the manager and what he wants and doesn’t want, I know myself what I can give.
“I have been proving myself every time I have had a chance and I will not stop until I play every game which is what I want.”
Fabregas will become the first Spaniard to rack up 300 appearances in the Premier League if he features against Swansea on Saturday afternoon. In Premier League history only Ryan Giggs (162) and Frank Lampard (102) has registered more assists than Fabregas (101).
