Manchester United midfielder admits doubts over future
Ander Herrera has conceded that next season could be his last at Manchester United.
The Spain international’s current deal is due to expire in 2019 after United triggered a 12-month extension earlier this year.
While talks about a new long-term deal have already started, Herrera has conceded that he is unsure whether he wants to prolong his stay.
“I’m going to fulfil the year I’ve got left but I don’t know if I will renew,” he told Mundo Deportivo. “We have started talks but nothing is decided yet.”
Herrera developed into a key player under Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese’s first season in charge of United but has dropped down the pecking order this time around.
Mourinho has already made it clear he will look to sign at least two new central midfielders in the summer but he may also have to look for a replacement for Herrera in the near future.
The 28-year-old has only started 10 Premier League matches this season, forced to make a further 12 appearances from the bench.
Despite a lack of regular playing time this season, Herrera is still top for tackles (130) and interceptions (109) at the club from the start of the last campaign.
