Monaco have announced Radamel Falcao has signed a new three-year deal keeping him at the club until 2020.
Falcao rediscovered his best form for the Principality Club this season following two years on loan in the Premier League where he struggled to make any impact whatsoever.
A serious knee injury at the start of 2014 looked to have robbed the Colombia international of any meaningful career thereafter but Falcao excelled this year and played an integral part in the club’s first league title since 2000.
There were suggestions that clubs from China would rekindle their interest that dates back to January with a summer move for the 31-year-old but Falcao has reportedly even agreed a significant wage reduction in order to remain with Leonardo Jardim’s side for an additional two years.
“I am pleased to continue my adventure at AS Monaco,” he told the club’s official website. “After this unbelievable season in which I got back to my best, all I wanted was to keep this great story going! I’m convinced that this project will be just as exciting next season, as we aim for the best.”
Falcao finished the season as Monaco’s top goalscorer (21) and reached 20+ goals in a single league campaign for the first time since his final season at Atletico Madrid in 2012/13 (28 goals).
