Arsenal confident they can secure France international’s services in January
Arsenal are confident they can resurrect a move for Monaco star Thomas Lemar after they failed to confirm a deadline day deal for the France international, reports the Daily Star.
The Gunners are believed to have agreed a fee for the 21-year-old last month, only for the player to supposedly turn down a move to the Emirates Stadium as he wanted to play in the Champions League and not the Europa League.
The deal is not dependent on Alexis Sanchez’s potential move away from Arsenal in the New Year, with the Chilean seeing a switch to Manchester City fall through on deadline day as Arsenal failed to land Lemar.
Arsene Wenger has not given up hope on Alexis signing a new contract at the club, but is lining up a move for Lemar should the Chile international depart the north London side in January.
It’s thought that Arsenal would need to match their £92m offer for Lemar if they are to convince Monaco into selling the youngster halfway through the campaign.
Lemar struggled to make an impact in Monaco’s 4-0 loss to Nice on Saturday, but has been in good form this season, registering two assists in five appearances.
