Bologna wrap up signing of experienced French defender
Bologna have secured the services of French centre-back Sebastien De Maio from Belgian side Anderlecht, reports L’Equipe.
The 30-year-old spent last season on loan with Serie A outfit Fiorentina, yet failed to make an impact for the Viola as he made just six league starts.
De Maio only moved to Anderlecht last summer from Genoa, yet they have since cashed in on the defender, with Bologna forking out €2m to secure his services.
The former Genoa man made two Europa League appearances for Fiorentina and his European experience will be crucial for a Bologna side that finished the season in 15th.
The Serie A side conceded 58 times in Italy’s top tier last term and it was clear they needed to improve at the back in order to progress.
De Maio becomes Roberto Donadoni’s third summer signing following the permanent captures of Saphir Taider and Filip Helander from Inter and Verona, respectively, as the 53-year-old looks to improve the squad ahead of the coming campaign.
