Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Harry Kane has sustained ankle ligament damage but refused to put a timespan on his injury.
Kane, 23, scored the winner against Sunderland on Sunday before twisting his ankle in a challenge with Papy Djilobodji with minutes of normal time remaining.
The England international had just scored his second goal in his last 13 competitive matches for club and country with reports claiming he could be sidelined for up to two months.
“He [Kane] has injured his ankle ligaments. We will continue to assess him every day but don’t want to put a time-frame on it,” Sky Sports quotes Pochettino as saying.
“Today it’s impossible to give a time for recovery. I am not a doctor. I can only explain what the doctors said to me. He is in a very good mood.
“We chatted before in the restaurant, he’s in a very good way. There are different rumours, we cannot guess whether it’s eight weeks, 10, four, one. It’s impossible to assess today and know how long.”
Kane has started in each of Tottenham’s last 71 matches in the Premier League, which is the longest streak of any current active player in England’s top-flight.
