Gareth Bale will not return to Tottenham

Gareth Bale could leave Real Madrid this summer but will not return to former club Tottenham, claims BBC Sport.

The Wales international cast his Madrid future into doubt in the immediate aftermath of their Champions League victory over Liverpool on Saturday.

Bale came off the bench to score twice and fire Madrid to their third straight European title, but used the celebrations to voice his frustations at his reduced role this season.

Manchester United and Bayern Munich are keen on the 28-year-old and his agent, Jonathan Barnett, is due to discuss his client’s future with Madrid this week.

Bale has spent the last five years at Madrid after joining from Tottenham in a £85m deal in 2013 and Mauricio Pochettino’s side have first right of refusal.

However, the finances that will be involved in brokering a deal makes the potential transfer unrealistic for Tottenham this summer.

Gareth Bale will not return to Tottenham

Bale has dropped down the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane this season and will seriously consider leaving if no assurances are given about regular playing time next term.

United have failed to sign the Welsh forward on two occasions in the past, but the Red Devils are thought to be Bale’s preferred location if he leaves Madrid.

Bale only started 23 of Madrid’s 51 games across league and European competition this season, netting 19 goals in the process.
