United target has €20m release clause

Bayer Leverkusen star Julian Brandt has a €20m (£17m) release clause that will become active in 2018, according to German newspaper Bild, via Get German Football.

Brandt, 20, is widely considered one of the best young talents emerging in the Bundesliga and has already been previously linked with a host of Premier League sides, with Manchester United the latest side to show an interest.

The Germany international’s current deal with Leverkusen isn’t due to expire until 2019 but clubs will have the option to sign the talented winger for as little as £17m if he enters the final year his current deal.

However, Leverkusen will either want to renew his deal or cash in on the German ace before then, with his market value likely to be well in excess of his current buy-out clause.

Brandt enjoyed a fine start to the first half of the campaign and will want to kick on when German football resumes after the winter break later next month. In fact, of players aged 21 and under in Europe’s top five leagues, only Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Ousmane Dembele (7) has registered more assists than Brandt this season (6).
