Team News

Hearts
Dundee FC
  • Hearts boss Steven Naismith named an unchanged Jambos eleven, despite a goalless stalemate against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, before they secured third place despite being swept aside 3-0 at Celtic Park against the league leaders.
  • Zander Clark was the outstanding performer in goal, behind a back three of Stephen Kingsley, Kye Rowles and Frankie Kent. Alex Cochrane started on the left flank once more, as the Jambos continued with a three-at-the-back formation.
  • Dexter Lembikisa remained at right wing-back despite Nathaniel Atkinson returning from injury. Jorge Grant, Cammy Devlin and Beni Baningime carried on in the middle of the park. Kenneth Vargas joined Lawrence Shankland in attack.
  • Dundee manager Tony Docherty made two changes from the Dee team that scarcely lost 2-1 at home to Celtic, before St Mirren clinched an impressive 3-1 victory at Dens Park last weekend.
  • Aaron Donnelly returned to the Dee's defence, joining Antonio Portales and Ricki Lamie in the back three at Josh Mulligan's expense. Owen Dodgson remained at left wing-back, as Jordan McGhee carried on at right wing-back.
  • The other alteration saw Lyall Cameron replace Malachi Boateng to join Mo Sylla and Luke McCowan - captain in Joe Shaughnessy's absence - in the middle of the park. Scott Tiffoney and Amadou Bakayoko started as the strike duo up front.

Prediction

  • Hearts locked in third place in the Scottish Premiership, as Dundee's attempts to leapfrog St Mirren into fifth took a severe hit last weekend.
  • The Jambos were aiming to win consecutive league games against Celtic at Parkhead for the first time since May 1961, before they were blown away 3-0 by the league leaders in Glasgow. However, thanks to Rangers' victory over Kilmarnock in Sunday's sole league match, the men in maroon have clinched three successive top-four finishes for the first time since the late 1990s.
  • Dundee have had an excellent return to the Scottish top tier, but their hopes of European football are hanging by a thread before they come to Tynecastle. The Dee's rotten recent record against St Mirren continued, as they've now lost five of their last six against Saints, despite beating the Buddies 4-0 in November which was their biggest Scottish Premiership win since December 2018.
  • Despite claiming a win over the Jambos at Dens back in August, Dundee spurned two great chances to beat Hearts in January and February so the men in maroon will fancy claiming a third victory over the Dee this season on Saturday.
