Youth Watch: Guler fires Real Madrid one step closer to title

 

Arda Guler was key in Real Madrid's title push as he scored the only goal in their 1-0 win at Real Sociedad on Friday night as the former Fenerbahce teen shone on his first La Liga start. Lamine Yamal also put in a fine shift as Barcelona delayed Los Blancos' title celebrations, while stars from Burnley, Gladbach and Rennes also impressed over the weekend. 

 

10. Wilson Odobert (Burnley) - 6.95 vs Manchester United 

 

Wilson Odobert gave the Manchester United backline a headache in Burnley's 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Frenchman completed two dribbles, made two key passes and fired off two shots as he played his part in the stalemate. 

 

9. Dario Essugo (Chaves) - 6.97 vs Casa Pia FC 

 

Chaves may have fallen to a 3-1 loss at Casa Pia but even in defeat; Dario Essugo put in a solid shift. The 19-year-old did all he could to help his side, making four tackles and three interceptions to return a WhoScored rating of 6.97. 

 

8. Brajan Gruda (Mainz 05) - 7.03 vs FC Koeln 

 

Mainz 05 were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Koeln over the weekend, a game in which Brajan Gruda put in a shift. Gruda completed four dribbles in the stalemate and was unfortunate not to add an assist having made three key passes. 

 

7. Fabio Chiarodia (Gladbach) - 7.05 vs Union Berlin 

 

Fabio Chiarodia impressed for Gladbach on his full league debut for the Foals against Union Berlin. The Italian played his part in keeping the capital side at bay, making three tackles, two interceptions and two clearances, while he also found a teammate with 49 of 50 passes in the 0-0 draw. 

 

6. Desire Doue (Rennes) - 7.09 vs Brest 

 

Rennes and Brest played out a nine-goal thriller on Sunday and while Desire Doue was unable to add to his four goals and four assists in an eventual 5-4 loss, the teenager was still a handful for the Brest backline. Indeed, he completed four dribbles to help land a WhoScored rating of 7.09. 

 

5. Malick Fofana (Lyon) - 7.16 vs Monaco 

 

Malick Fofana was decisive in Lyon's 3-2 win over Monaco on over the weekend as he came off the bench midway through the second half to bag the winning goal that handed PSG the title. That was the Belgian's second league goal following his January move to Lyon as he earned a WhoScored rating of 7.16. 

 

4. Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) - 7.22 vs Valencia 

 

While Robert Lewandowski stole the show in Barcelona's 4-2 win over Valencia on Monday night, Lamine Yamal did all he could to help the Blaugrana in the victory. The 16-year-old completed four dribbles and made two key passes in the home triumph.

Arda Guler marked his first ever La Liga start with the winning goal in Real Madrid's 1-0 triumph at Real Sociedad on Friday night. The Turkish teen struck with one of three shots and completed two dribbles. Guler also excelled off the ball, making two tackles to return a WhoScored rating of 7.55. 

 

2. Martim Fernandes (FC Porto) - 7.67 vs Sporting CP 

 

On his first ever league start for FC Porto, Martim Fernandes returned a WhoScored rating of 7.67 in their 2-2 draw with champions-elect Sporting CP. The 18-year-old provided the assist for Pepe Aquino's first half strike from his only key pass, and made three tackles and two dribbles in a fine showing. 

 

1. Mateus Fernandes (Estoril) - 8.19 vs Famalicao 

 

Mateus Fernandes was key as Estoril beat Famalicao 1-0 on home turf as he provided the assist for Rodrigo Gomes' first half winner over the weekend. That assist came from one of three key passes, while four tackles and one interception saw the midfielder land a WhoScored rating of 8.19.
