Kane maintains stunning Bayern start to make European Team of the Month

Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane is October’s player of the month in Europe’s top five leagues, and teammates Kingsley Coman and Harry Kane join him in the month’s best XI. Elsewhere, players from Monza, Athletic Bilbao, Tottenham, Brentford, Monaco, Girona, Real Madrid and PSG all make the cut as we run through the full XI.

Michele Di Gregorio (Monza) - 7.56

Italian side Monza took seven points from their four matches throughout the month of October, keeping two clean sheets along the way, and crucial to that defensive solidity has been goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio. The 26-year-old impressed in wins against both Salernitana and Sassuolo, and his display against the latter is his highest rated of the season so far (8.63), with the Italian making a total of seven saves and maintaining a pass success rate of 92.9%.

Oscar De Marcos (Athletic Bilbao) - 7.70

Veteran full-back Oscar De Marcos continues to show no sign of ageing with his performances for Athletic Bilbao. Despite only taking four points from their three matches in October, De Marcos impressed, and especially in last weekend’s 2-2 draw at home to Valencia. The 24-year-old’s goal, key pass, dribble, clearance, block and 10 tackles earned him a WhoScored rating of 9.14, by far his best so far this term.

Cristian Romero (Tottenham) - 7.58

World Cup winner Cristian Romero continues to be ranked as the highest rated centre-back in the Premier League this season, and his high-calibre performances against Fulham and Luton earn him a spot in the month’s best XI. Ethan Pinnock (Brentford) - 7.53

Joining Romero in defence is fellow Premier League centre-back Ethan Pinnock, who played every minute throughout October as Thomas Frank’s Brentford side picked up seven points from four matches. Pinnock’s best performance of the month, and indeed the season so far, came in last Saturday’s victory at Chelsea (8.49), when his second half header all but sealed three points for the visitors.

Ismail Jakobs (Monaco) - 7.90

Senegalese full-back Ismail Jakobs has stepped up admirably in the absence of Caio Henrique, and started each of Monaco’s three matches in October. Jakobs posted a WhoScored rating of 9.78 in the 3-1 victory away to Reims, where he had a direct hand in two of his side’s three goals - scoring one and providing the assist for another. The 24-year-old also recorded 10 tackles and interceptions, four clearances and a block, for what is now his highest rated performance on record.

Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich) 7.62

Bayern Munich continued their scintillating attacking form into October, scoring 14 goals as they won each of their three Bundesliga matches. French winger Kingsley Coman was directly involved in four of those, including the two he scored in the 3-0 home win over Freiburg, where the 27-year-old earned a WhoScored rating of 9.82, his best so far this season.

Kane registered four goals and two assists in Bayern’s three matches throughout the month, with his standout performance, like teammate Sane, also coming in the home win over Darmstadt.
