With the penultimate weekend of this season’s Premier League action now behind us, we’ve taken a look at gameweek 37’s standout performers. Represented in our Team of the Week are Sheffield United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Everton, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
Wes Foderingham (Sheffield United) - 8.14
Despite defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday, Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham earns a place in our Team of the Week, having made a total of six saves and four high claims against the Toffees, contributing to a WhoScored rating of 8.14.
Ruben Dias (Manchester City) - 7.82
Manchester City’s charge for a fourth successive Premier League title rolled on once more as they cruised to a 4-0 victory at Fulham on Saturday. Solid at the back for the visitors was Ruben Dias, who won six aerial duels, made three interceptions and three clearances on his way to a WhoScored rating of 7.82.
William Saliba (Arsenal) - 7.82
Arsenal defender William Saliba turned in yet another Player of the Match performance away to a Big Six side, as the Gunners narrowly overcame Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday. Saliba, who has played every minute in the Premier League this season, made four tackles, six clearances, three aerial wins and one last-man tackle to take home a WhoScored rating of 7.82.
James Tarkowski (Everton) - 7.81
Everton made it five wins and five clean sheets in a row at Goodison Park with Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Sheffield United. Crucial, as ever, to the Toffees’ defensive effort was James Tarkowski, who won four aerial duels, made two tackles, four clearances and six blocks to return a WhoScored rating of 7.81.
Bernardo Silva (Manchester City) - 8.53
Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva takes home the Premier League Player of the Week award having registered a brace of assists in the champions’ 4-0 victory at Fulham on Saturday. Those assists, his sixth and seventh of the campaign, came from two of four key passes, while the Portugal international also managed three shots and two successful dribbles for a WhoScored rating of 8.53.
Elliot Anderson (Newcastle) - 8.42
Newcastle midfielder Elliot Anderson registered his second league assist of the season in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Brighton at St James’ Park. The 21-year-old also made one tackle, one interception, three key passes and six successful dribbles in a fine all-round display.
Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) - 8.17
In only his 13th league start of the season, Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne registered a ninth assist at Fulham on Saturday. The Belgian maestro found Josko Gvardiol for the visitors’ opener with one of seven key passes at Craven Cottage, while he also managed two shots on goal to land a WhoScored rating of 8.17.
Michael Olise (Crystal Palace) - 8.41
Crystal Palace attacker Michael Olise continued his magnificent form of late with two more goal involvements in the Eagles’ 3-1 win at Wolves on Saturday. The 22-year-old both scored and assisted in the victory at Molineux, marking the third league match this season in which he has found the net and set one up for a teammate.
Josko Gvardiol (Manchester City) - 8.08
Having failed to find the net until April, Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol now has four goals in his last five league matches. The Croatian, who also scored in wins over Luton and Nottingham Forest, bagged a brace in the victory at Fulham on Saturday to send the champions well on their way to yet another three points.
Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace) - 7.80
Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta continued his remarkable form under Oliver Glasner by netting a sixth goal in his last five matches in the win over Wolves on Saturday. The 26-year-old, who now has 13 to his name in the Premier League this season, found the net with his only shot at Molineux, while he also managed two key passes to earn a WhoScored rating of 7.80.
Jhon Duran (Aston Villa) - 8.36
Aston Villa’s back-up striker Jhon Duran made it five Premier League goals in just 373 minutes of action this season when he came off the bench, Hungry Like The Wolf, to bag a crucial brace late on against Liverpool on Monday night. The Colombian attacker was substituted on with his side 3-1 down and seemingly resigned to defeat, but found the net in the 85th and 88th minute as Liverpool, to earn what could be a pivotal point in the race for Champions League football.
