Man Utd vs Fulham referee: Could Robert Jones stats favour home side?

With the Premier League set to return this evening, as Manchester United host Fulham at Old Trafford, we’ve taken a look at the stats behind the man in the middle of the clash. 

Robert Jones is set to take charge of the competition’s curtain-raiser on Friday evening. The 37-year-old has previously officiated seven Manchester United matches and seven Fulham games. 

Jones is a well-established Premier League official, having taken charge of 22 league matches last season, showing 95 yellow cards and five red cards. 

Last season, Jones whistled for an average of 23.2 fouls per game, the ninth-most among the Premier League’s group of referees.  

In his seven matches in charge of Friday’s hosts, Jones has shown 17 yellow cards to United players (2.4 per game). While when officiating Fulham, he shows an average of 1.7 per game to players in a white shirt. 

Of the teams he has refereed at home more than three times, Jones has only shown more yellow cards per game to QPR players (2.75), than those of Manchester United. 

In the Premier League, Jones shows an average of 3.7 yellow cards per game, while he has whistled for a penalty less than half of the time (0.4 per game).

It remains to be seen whether Jones history favours the hosts this evening, but expect there to be number of cautions on the Premier League’s opening day.
