Who is Daniel Svensson? The next Eduardo Camavinga linked with Liverpool transfer
After a deal for Martin Zubimendi failed to come to fruition, Liverpool are back to square one in their pursuit of a new central midfielder. With the Reds now looking to complete a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili as a priority, there is still time in the window for the Merseyside outfit to bolster in the middle of the park.
At the time of writing, Liverpool remain the only Premier League side yet to make a new signing this summer. It's a stark contrast to last year, where the Merseyside outfit sought to bolster the midfield with the additions of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch. Yet, the title challengers need another body to help anchor the midfield.

At 31 years of age, Endo is a stop-gap until the right man comes along, and if reports are to be believed; then Liverpool are looking to the Danish Superliga in pursuit of their next midfielder. Swedish star-in-the-making Daniel Svensson is reportedly on the Premier League side's radar as Liverpool adopt a more cautious approach to the market.
Svensson moved to FC Nordsjaelland back in 2020 and has gone on to consolidate a regular starting spot for the Danish side. A number of former Nordsjaelland players have gone on to play Premier League football, including Mikkel Damsgaard, Simon Adingra and Mathias Jensen. Might Svensson follow their path to English football?
Liverpool fans may be craving a more reputable name as they seek to add another midfielder yet their focussed process means they are able to pick out a diamond in the rough rather than spend big on the final product. And if Svensson's style of play is anything to go by, the Reds should be cautiously optimistic regarding a move for the 22-year-old.
That's largely because Svensson has been drawing comparisons with Real Madrid and France star Eduardo Camavinga. While the Frenchman is yet to consolidate a starting spot for Los Blancos - 21 of his 31 appearances in La Liga last season came from the outset - Camavinga is highly thought of across the continent. Indeed, the former Rennes man is able to break up play with ease, routinely pick out a teammate and drive forward in possession in the middle of the park.
Combined with his ability to play left-back, Camavinga is a very important player for both club and country, and one who'll only improve in time. Svensson is similar in that regard. The Swede is able to operate in central midfield, defensive midfield and at left-back, with his positional adaptability part of the reason why he has cropped up on Liverpool's radar.
This is hugely important for this Arne Slot-managed Liverpool side. The Dutchman's ideal system demands flexibility from players, and Svensson would suit this approach from the former Feyenoord boss. His addition would point to the change in strategy, with a greater onus on long-term gains, which also goes some way to explaining the move for Mamardashvili. Factor in his solid showings in European competition for the Danish side last season, and he seems ready to make that first headline-grabbing move.
While the club have other areas in need of correcting, notably the expiring contracts of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, they also need to gear up for the next chapter in their history. The signing of Svensson would be a step in the right direction for the Reds as they look to the future with the capture of a versatile operator who has shown he is ready to make the next step of his career.
