Man City sweating on De Bruyne scan results

Manchester City are set to find out the severity of Kevin de Bruyne’s knee injury on Thursday afternoon.

De Bruyne was stretchered off in the dying embers of City’s 3-1 over Everton in the League Cup semi-final with what Manuel Pellegrini revealed was suspected medial knee ligament damage.

The Belgium international made a pivotal contribution after coming on the 67th minute but could now be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, which would be a huge blow for City’s title credentials.

“We will see tomorrow,” Pellegrini is quoted as saying by ESPN. “The doctor thinks he has a problem in his medial ligament but it is impossible before tomorrow.

“It is very difficult to know in this moment but I am optimistic he will not be out for the rest of the season. It is not a cruciate ligament, it is the medial ligament.”

De Bruyne arrived as City’s club-record signing over the summer and the former Chelsea midfielder has taken no time in adjusting to the rigours of the Premier League. In fact, no City player has played a direct hand in more league goals than De Bruyne this season (14).
