Wenger to give Arsenal top goalscorer time off

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is set to give Alexis Sanchez a mid-season break to avoid the star getting burnout, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 26-year-old’s performances have notably dropped off in recent weeks and Wenger is looking to preserve his best form for the title run-in.

World Cup and Copa America commitments over the last two years means Sanchez hasn’t had a full pre-season off since 2013.

Wenger could look to make the most of a kind run of fixtures after the international break that won’t see Arsenal play a team in the top half of the Premier League until mid December.

Sanchez is now without a goal in his last three league outings having scored six goals in the three matches prior to that. In this time, the Chilean’s WhoScored league rating has dropped from 9.40 to 6.85.
