Bayern ready to test Tottenham’s resolve to keep Manchester United target

Bayern are ready to test Tottenham’s resolve and lodge a £50m bid for Manchester United target Eric Dier, reports the Sun on Sunday.

United have been strongly linked with a move for Dier for much of the window, though Spurs remained steadfast in their bid to retain the England international’s services.

Jose Mourinho’s side eventually plumped for Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, but would still move for Dier if there was a chance Spurs would be willing to sell.

However, they would face stiff competition from Bayern Munich, who secured a record sixth DFL-Supercup with a penalty shootout win over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday night.

Bayern head coach Carlo Ancelotti is a huge admirer of the 23-year-old and it was reported earlier this year the Italian would pursue a move in Dier.

Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino is strictly against selling the versatile youngster this summer, particularly with the north London side yet to bring in any new faces in the window.

Dier has been a key player for Spurs following his arrival from Sporting CP in 2014.
