Manchester City linked to two £60m midfielders following De Bruyne injury

Manchester City are considering big money January moves to bolster their midfield according to The Sun on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola is set to be without Kevin De Bruyne for a number of months following an injury sustained in training and while the Belgian should return by the turn of the year, the City boss is keen to strengthen in the middle of the park.

Fernandinho is now 33 and Ilkay Gundogan hasn’t wholly convinced in a spell at the club that has, to now, admittedly been disrupted by injuries.

The tabloid suggests that the Premier League champions could make a £60m move for Wolves star Ruben Neves, whose agent Jorge Mendes also represents City duo Ederson and Bernardo Silva.

The club has also been linked to Borussia Dortmund star Julian Weigl in recent times and the same paper also report (via France Football) that City would have to stump up £68m to secure the German’s services.

BVB have brought in the likes of Thomas Delaney and Axel Witsel this summer, suggesting that their young midfielder may be able to move on, with Paris Saint-Germain also thought to be interested.

21-year-old started 42 league matches to help fire Wolves to the top-flight last season, scoring six goals, and already has a goal and assist to his name in the Premier League this season, with all seven of his strikes in England coming from outside the box.

Weigl, one year Neves’ senior, started just 20 Bundesliga games last season by comparison, scoring just once, and is more of a safe passer than the Portuguese, who looks to switch play and pass forwards when possible. The German, however, is more defensively minded and averaged an impressive 3.2 tackles per 90 minutes last season.
