Ilkay Gundogan has informed Borussia Dortmund he will not extend his contract beyond 2017, reports Bild.
The Germany international has been linked to a variety of big clubs across Europe in recent months and admirers have now been placed on high alert with Dortmund set to cash in on the 25-year-old this summer.
Gundogan’s current deal is set to run out in 2017 and Thomas Tuchel’s men would rather get a sizeable fee for the central midfielder at the end of the season rather than let him run down his contract and risk losing him for nothing.
Since the start of last season, Gundogan has won possession in the midfield third at least 49 times more than any other player in the Bundesliga (221).
