Tottenham striker free to leave this summer

Fernando Llorente is set to leave Tottenham in the summer after struggling for playing time this season, claims the London Evening Standard.

Tottenham beat Chelsea to Llorente’s signature in the summer but the former Spain international has endured a miserable campaign for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Harry Kane was due to undergo a scan on Monday on the ankle injury he sustained in the first half of Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday.

Pochettino’s side fear Kane has suffered ankle ligament damage and faces a long spell on the sidelines but Llorente is not expected to benefit from a run in the team as a result.

Instead, Erik Lamela has been tipped to deputise in Kane’s absence, with Heung-Min Son moved centrally to exploit his recent goalscoring form.

Llorente was briefly linked with a move to Chelsea in January before Antonio Conte’s side signed Olivier Giroud from Arsenal but he is expected to leave in the summer.

The 33-year-old has made 28 appearances in all competitions this season but only eight of those have come as starts. Aside from a hat-trick against Rochdale in the last round of the FA Cup, Llorente has only scored two more times all season.
