United still hopeful of Ronaldo reunion

Manchester United are still hopeful of resigning Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid, according to The Daily Mirror.

Louis van Gaal has made no secret behind his desire to land a marquee player to transform his United side into genuine title contenders and rumours have refused to go away linking Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.

The three-time World Player of the Year left United in 2009 and it has been suggested that it would require a fee in excess of £70m to resign the forward, who turns 31 in February.

United would have to fend off interest from Paris Saint-Germain, who have been long-term admirers of Ronaldo.

Since joining Madrid, only Lionel Messi (235) has scored more goals than Ronaldo (230) in Europe’s top five leagues.
