Witsel rejects new Zenit deal

Alex Witsel has rejected a new contract offer from Zenit St. Petersburg after his transfer to Juventus collapsed on the final day of the transfer window, according to reports from Russia, via Football Italia.

The Belgium international had completed a medical and signed a contract with Juventus last week but the deal to the Serie A champions fell through after Zenit failed to find a replacement in time.

Witsel, 27, has entered the final 12 months of his current deal and Zenit’s attempts to secure his long-term future but the midfielder has his heart set on joining Juventus when the transfer window re-opens in January.
