Zlatan Ibrahimovic to sign new Manchester United deal this week

Manchester United expect Zlatan Ibrahimovic to sign a new contract this week, claims ESPN.

Jose Mourinho’s side let Ibrahimovic’s contract expire earlier in the summer after he suffered a career-threatening injury back in April.

Ibrahimovic suffered a serious knee injury during a Europa League clash against Anderlecht and is not expected to make a full recovery until the end of the year.

It was thought the former Sweden international would wind down his illustrious career in MLS, but his recovery has gone better than anyone expected and now United are on the cusp of re-signing their former No.9.

The 35-year-old would not be able to play for United until January, but his return would provide Mourinho’s side with a huge boost ahead of the final six months of the season.

Ibrahimovic has already vacated his No.9 jersey to summer signing Romelu Lukaku but No.10 and No.7 remain available at Old Trafford.

In one season at United, Ibrahimovic defied logic to play a direct hand in 38 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions (28 goals, 10 assists).
