Juventus will not look to buy or sell any more players this summer, according to the club’s director general Giuseppe Marotta, seemingly ruling out any chance of Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal leaving.
The news will come as a blow to a number of Europe’s elite clubs who had both players on their radar this summer.
Marotta, who spoke briefly after Juventus announced manager Massimiliano Allegri and Claudio Marchisio had signed new deals, confirmed there would neither be any more arrivals or outgoings this summer.
"We moved before other clubs for our main objectives," Marotta explained.
"The transfer market [for us] closes here today. The squad is competitive; there are two players for every position, so we think it’s competitive.
"The Vidal talk is just rumours, we have a good relationship with Real [Madrid, linked with the player], but these rumours are utopian.
"As for Pogba, I’ve already spent so much time talking about this – Juventus will not sell the best players in our squad."
Vidal, 28, was one of the standout performers in Chile’s route to their first Copa America victory this summer. The tenacious central midfielder chipped in with three goals, managed more shots on target than any other player in the tournament (11) and also averaged a respectable 2.8 tackles and interceptions per game combined. He finished the competition as the third highest rated player (7.80), behind Lionel Messi (8.43) and Ángel Di María (7.90).
Similarly, Pogba has been one of the most sought after talents for the last two years. Touted as a potential Ballon d’Or winner, the powerful midfielder's Serie A rating of 7.67 was only bettered by Palermo’s Franco Vázquez (7.74) last season.
