Everton in pole position to sign promising centre-back

Everton have moved ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign Burnley defender Michael Keane, reports the Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old has been attracting interest from a number of the Premier League’s elite teams after an impressive start to the season with the Clarets.

Former side United are keen to bring the English centre-back back to Old Trafford, but had been expected to face competition from the Blues for his signature.

However, Everton have now allegedly leapt to the front of the queue in the race to sign Keane.

Keane has rejected Burnley’s offer to discuss a new contract at Turf Moor, though it’s unlikely he will leave the club in January.

With just 18 months left to run on his current deal, though, Burnley need to sell in the summer or run the risk of losing him on a free at the end of the 2017/18 season.

Having turned down a £17m offer from Leicester for his signature last summer, Burnley are aware they can command a top fee for Keane.

And the defender and his advisors view Everton as a viable destination as he would likely gain ample playing time for the Toffees compared to United and Chelsea, who have numerous options at the back.
