City confirm Nasri exit

Samir Nasri has today completed his loan move from Manchester City to Sevilla.

The Frenchman has registered just 15 minutes of league action this season, with manager Pep Guardiola deeming him surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium.

"Samir Nasri has joined Sevilla on a season-long loan," a statement read on Manchester City's official website.

"Since joining City in 2011, the French midfielder has been integral in one of the most trophy-laden periods in the club’s history.

"The 29-year-old has lifted two Premier League titles, a League Cup and a Community Shield in his time since completing his switch from Arsenal.

"Part of a midfield that included David Silva, Yaya Toure and Gareth Barry throughout the historic 2011/12 campaign, Nasri played a crucial role throughout the campaign, making 45 appearances and scoring six goals.

"Renowned for his close control and technical ability in the final third, Nasri’s star shone brightest in the 2012 and 2014 title-winning seasons.

"Of his 27 goals he scored in City colours, many have been crucial and few were more important than they don’t come much more important than his March 2012 winner against Chelsea.

"His 85th minute chip over Petr Cech completed the turnaround in a 2-1 victory for the Blues and set them on the path that would end with six successive victories that would seal a first top flight title in 44 years.

"Two years later Nasri’s contribution was vital in City clinching a domestic double.

"His spectacular goal against Sunderland in the Capital One Cup final against Sunderland in the 2014 final proved to be the winning strike in a 3-1 win and on the final day of the campaign his 39th-minute strike from the edge of West Ham’s box rebounded in off the inside of the post to give the Blues the lead and settle the nerves of the Etihad crowd with City going on to win 2-0.

"Just a few months later, Nasri scored another crucial goal, firing in from 25 yards as City beat Roma 2-0 in the Stadio Olimpico to confirm progression to the Champions League knockout stage.

"Following an injury-hit 2015/16, Samir came on as a second half substitute during Sunday’s 2-1 victory over West Ham - his 176th appearance in all competitions for City - but he will now spend the rest of the season in La Liga.

"From everyone at the Club, good luck in Spain, Samir!"
