Huddersfield set to break transfer record for Ligue 1 striker
Newly-promoted Premier League outfit Huddersfield are set to beat a number of top-flight competitors to the signing of Montpellier’s Steve Mounie, according to L’Equipe.
The 22-year-old enjoyed an excellent breakthrough campaign in Ligue 1 last season, leading the line for Montpellier, scoring 14 goals to fire La Paillade to safety.
Having not started a single league game for the club prior to the season gone by, Mounie ended 2016/17 among the top ten scorers in France’s top tier, putting his height in particular to good use.
Only one player scored more headed goals in Ligue 1 last season (6), while the Benin international also won the most aerial duels in the division (293) by a distance.
A fee in the region of €13m looks set to see the youngster join Huddersfield, adding firepower to a side whose top scorer, Elias Kachunga, netted a modest 12 league goals last season. If the value quoted is correct the forward would become the Terriers record signing.
