West Ham rekindle interest in £40m-rated Serie A striker
West Ham have rekindled their interest in Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata, claims The Sun.
The Hammers have made signing a new striker their number one priority for the remainder of the window after offloading Marko Arnautovic to China.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side have missed out on first choice target Maxi Gomez to Valencia and have been heavily linked with a number of other strikers since.
Mario Balotelli, Diego Costa and Callum Wilson are just a few of the names reportedly on West Ham’s radar.
However, it has now emerged the Hammers have reignited their pursuit of Zapata.
West Ham were linked with a move for the Colombia international in January and will test Atalanta’s resolve in the coming weeks.
Pellegrini’s side face a tough task convincing both Atalanta and Zapata to agree on a deal.
Atalanta surprisingly secured Champions League football for next season and it’s likely Zapata would only consider leaving the Serie A outfit for another side in Europe’s elite competition.
Napoli have been linked with a move to re-sign the 28-year-old, who was a revelation for Atalanta last season.
Zapata played a direct hand in 30 goals in 37 league appearances for Atalanta last season (23 goals, seven assists).
In fact, only Sampdoria veteran Fabio Quagliarella (26) netted more times than Zapata in Serie A in 2018/19.
