Wenger’s position at Arsenal to be reviewed at the end of the season

Arsene Wenger has revealed his position as Arsenal manager will be reviewed at the end of the season despite signing a two-year deal in May.

The 68-year-old was tipped to leave Arsenal at the end of last season after the Gunners finished outside of the top four for the first time in his 21 years as manager of the club.

However, Wenger went on to pen a new deal in the summer that is due to expire at the end of next season, but the Frenchman has revealed he wants his job to be reviewed in the summer.

“I want to see what the board thinks of my performance,” BBC Sport quote Wenger as saying. “After that we decide where we go from there. My desire has always been to respect my contracts, but that is what I meant.”

Arsenal are already nine points adrift of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League after losing three of their opening nine matches.

Failure to finish in the top four after shattering the club’s transfer record to land Alexandre Lacazette in the summer would be another black cross against Wegner’s name.

However, Arsenal’s win ratio in 2017 is 67.4%, which is higher than any other calendar year in the club’s history.
