Chelsea defender wanted by European elite

Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are chasing the signature of Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta, reports Sky Sports.

Azpilicueta’s versatility on both sides of the defence has caught the eye of some of Europe’s biggest clubs as they all look to strengthen their backlines.

Barcelona are looking to replace Dani Alves, whereas Carlo Ancelotti is keen to reunite with the Spain international at Bayern this summer.

Atletico are reportedly the favourites to sign the former Marseille defender although they could cool their pursuit when they complete a deal to sign Croatian full back Sime Vrsaljko.

However, it would not be for Azpilicueta’s desire to leave Chelsea after he revealed he is happy with life at Stamford Bridge earlier this week.

“It’s always a compliment that you are wanted, I’ve heard highly about Valverde, but I’m focused on the national team and Chelsea, I’ve been there for four years, I am very happy and I feel highly valued.” Azpilicueta told Spanish paper AS on reports linking him with a move to Athletic Club.

In the last two Premier League seasons only Chelsea teammate Nemanja Matic (352) completed more tackles and interceptions than Azpilicueta (345).
