Atletico Madrid defender Theo Hernandez has passed his Real Madrid medical and signed a contract committing his future to Zinedine Zidane’s side, reports AS.
Hernandez has enjoyed a spectacular season on loan at Alaves this season and has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona and Madrid as a result.
Diego Simeone’s side would have preferred not to have lost the left-back to their city rivals, but Hernandez is due to announce his decision to join Madrid after the Copa Del Fey final between Alaves and Barcelona at the end of May.
The 19-year-old passed his medical examination at the Sanitas-La Moraleja Clinic in Madrid and all that is left to do is for Zidane’s side to match his €24m (£20m) buy-out clause.
However, the transfer effectively ends the transfer protection pact between Madrid and Atletico that was agreed to stop the clubs from directly signing players from each other, as Zidane’s side finally sign a long-term successor to Marcelo.
Only Atletico left-back Filipe Luis (76) has completed more dribbles of all defenders in La Liga this season than Hernandez (62).
