Chelsea outcast flies to Barcelona

Chelsea defender David Luiz has visited a knee specialist in Barcelona on two occasions in a bid to save his season, reports Sky Sports.

Luiz has not featured since the start of last month and is keen to avoid knee surgery with the 2018 World Cup around the corner.

The Brazil international has dropped out of favour under Antonio Conte since October but is targeting a return to first-team action at the start of next month.

Luiz was heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in January after falling out with Conte but is still keen to play a part in the remainder of their season.

The 30-year-old faces an uncertain future beyond the end of the current campaign but a decision on whether he stays at the club could hinge on whether Conte is still manager.

Since returning to Chelsea for the 2016/17 campaign, the Blues have won a larger proportion of their Premier League matches with Luiz in the starting XI (73.%) compared to when he has not featured from the off (60.0%).
