Inter looking to cash in on captain

Inter are actively looking to sell captain Mauro Icardi, according to the player’s wife and agent Wanda Nara.

Icardi, 23, was made captain by Roberto Mancini at the start of last season but the Argentine striker has been linked with a high profile move away ever since.

Reports had emerged from Spain at the start of the weekend claiming Atletico Madrid had agreed personal terms with Icardi and his wife has revealed the club are looking to cash in on the interest shown in the striker.

“From what I can see, Inter have put Icardi up for sale,” she told Calciomercato.com, via Football Italia. “There are many clubs interested. We will evaluate the situation with all due respect for everyone.

“Mauro would be very sad to leave Inter, but we’ve understood the club’s economic situation and evidently they cannot hold Icardi back.

“There is no release clause in his contract and we hope Inter won’t ask for a sum that is outside the market value, but rather suited to his contract.”

In the last two Serie A campaigns only Gonzalo Higuain (34) has scored more clear-cut chances than Icardi (25).
