West Brom are seriously interested in signing Sporting midfielder William Carvalho, according to The Daily Mail.
Carvalho, 24, only signed a new long-term contract with the Portuguese giants in February that included a £38m release clause.
The 24-year-old has previously been mooted with a move to Arsenal but West Brom are now trying to pull of an audacious swoop for the midfielder but only if they can convince Sporting to lower their asking price.
Tony Pulis’ side have already had a £21.3m bid for Carvalho turned down but reports claim the Baggies will return with an improved offer.
Only a handful of players have completed more interceptions in Liga NOS this season than Carvalho (12).
