Paris Saint-Germain want to hand Adrien Rabiot a new long-term deal before the January transfer window to avoid letting the midfielder enter the final 18 months of his current deal, reports ESPN.
The Ligue 1 giants have no intentions of losing Rabiot and want to hand the France international a new contract to reflect his growing significance under head coach Unai Emery.
Rabiot was reportedly initially reluctant to agree terms to a contract extension but has since been convinced by the direction PSG are heading following the big money arrivals of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe over the summer.
The 22-year-old struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular under Laurent Blanc but has flourished under Emery in the last 12 months and is now considered an important player in the squad.
The France international has started all 12 of PSG’s league matches this season, altering between a deep-lying midfield role and a more advanced position.
Of players aged 23 and under in Europe’s top five leagues, Rabiot averages the most passes per game this season (85.8).
