Monaco sound out Inter defender

New Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim wants to bolster the club’s defensive options and has sounded out Inter veteran Miranda, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Monaco signed Naldo from Schalke earlier this month but the 36-year-old has been sent off in two of his first three league matches for the club.

The Ligue 1 strugglers have also signed Cesc Fabregas from Chelsea and Gelson Martins from Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window.

Jardim returns to Monaco with the club second from bottom and with the second worst defensive record in the division (38 goals conceded in 22 games).

The 44-year-old has made signing one more central defender a priority before Thursday’s transfer deadline and Miranda is the club’s top target.

Monaco sound out Inter defender

Miranda has spent the last has spent nearly four years at Inter but has dropped completely out of favour under Luciano Spalletti this season.

Milan Skriniar and summer signing Stefan de Vrij are preferred at the back, while Inter have reportedly wrapped up a deal to sign Atletico Madrid veteran Diego Godin for the summer.

Miranda has entered the final 18 months of his existing Inter deal but has no future at the club and Monaco are now trying to prise him away this month for a cut-price fee.

The Brazilian centre-back has only made eight league appearances this season and Inter have lost each of the last four matches he has featured in.
