Arsenal will not increase Wilshere’s contract offer, says Wenger

Arsene Wenger has revealed Arsenal will not increase their current contract offer for Jack Wilshere.

The England international is out of contract at the end of the season but is refusing to take a pay-cut on his current £110,000-a-week wage.

Arsenal handed out big contracts to Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January but will not match Wilshere’s demands.

Everton are willing to better Arsenal’s current offer on the table for Wilshere and Wenger has suggested the midfielder may leave the club in the summer.

“On my side nothing had changed,” The Daily Telegraph quote Wenger as saying on Wednesday. “Jack will be free at the end of the season. We make a proposal. I want him to say and be linked to the club for the future and I hope he will do it.”

Wilshere was challenged by Wenger earlier in the season to prove he has overcome his injury woes to deserve a new contract and he has done that.

The 26-year-old is expected to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad on Thursday for upcoming friendlies against Holland and Italy with a view to making his first appearance on the international scene since Euro 2016.

However, Arsenal actually have a far superior win ratio in the Premier League this season when Wilshere has not started (55%) compared to when he has featured from the off (30%).
