Arsenal confident of Aubameyang deal

Arsenal are growing increasingly confident Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will end questions about his future and extend his stay at the club, reports the London Evening Standard.

Aubameyang has entered the final 12 months of his current Arsenal deal and has been stalling on talks of improved terms to weigh up his options.

The 31-year-old has reportedly been holding out for wages in the region of £350,000-a-week and also wants to return to the Champions League.

Arsenal are in financial turmoil and sanctioning such a lucrative contract to someone already the wrong side of 30 is a huge gamble.

However, Mikel Arteta has made it clear to the Arsenal board he wants Aubameyang to stay and the Spaniard is optimistic a deal will be made.

It is also the case that there is no obvious exit route for Aubameyang to take this summer. While Barcelona, Manchester United and Inter have all been linked with the Arsenal captain, he is certainly not their first-choice target.

Nevertheless, Aubameyang has been a goalscoring machine since joining Arsenal from Dortmund in January 2018 for a then-club-record fee.

The veteran striker scored twice in Saturday's FA Cup semi-final victory over Manchester City to book Arsenal's place in the final.

Furthermore, since making his Arsenal debut only Mohamed Salah (54) has scored more Premier League goals than Aubameyang (52).
