Klopp turns down international management

Former Borussia Dortmund head coach Jurgen Klopp has turned down the chance to manage Mexico’s national team, according to the head of the country’s football association.

Klopp has been strongly linked with a number of top jobs since leaving Dortmund at the end of last season, including Brendan Rodgers’ post at Liverpool in recent weeks.

The charismatic German is a third of the way through the 12-month sabbatical he announced he would take following his decision to step down as Dortmund manager at the end of last season and it was time away from the game that led him to reject the chance to replace interim manager Ricardo Feretti as Mexico’s manager.

“We spoke to his representative, but he said he is on a sabbatical and it would not be possible now,” The Mexican FA’s secretary general Guillermo Cantu told Marcaje Personal.
